Joy of Riding Program

Where do you want to ride today?

Do you like to spend time riding your NAPHA registered Peruvian Paso or Peruvian Part-Blood on meandering mountain trails or soft sandy beaches?  Perhaps you prefer to spend your time conducting breed demonstrations at equine festivities, strutting your stuff in all-breed shows or parading in country parades?  Maybe, just maybe, you answered yes to all of the above.  Whether you do one, or all of the above, the NAPHA's Joy of Riding Program is just for you!

Since its inception in 2002, the Joy of Riding Program has active participants across the United States - Coast to Coast! The program is open to NAPHA members and their registered purebred or partblood horses. The cost is $15 a year to participate.  Once the office receives your application and fee, we will send you a booklet containing log forms, where you will keep track of the hours you spend in the saddle.  The general rule of thumb - you can include any hours you spend in the saddle with the exception of NAPHA approved purebred shows.  You may use any combination of mounts - as long as you are current on your membership and the horse(s) is/are registered with the NAPHA or the PPP-BR.  Attention Aficionados!  You can participate in the program too as you do not need to own the horse(s) you ride.

Breakdown of hours: 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000.

For each "hour landmark" reached, return the hours log and you will receive a Joy of Riding Patch and certificate.  PLUS you will receive one of many awards - from keychains to totes, mugs to belt buckles and more!

1,000+  Hour Club!
(Quickly closing in on 2,000 hours!!!)

"Just wanted to thank you for the great prizes you sent for my many hours of riding!  My biggest reward, however, is the time I spend with these great horses!  What super temperaments they have - we've faced a bear at 30 feet, deer, turkeys, dogs, cats, trucks, motorcycles, bikes, backpackers, giant tarps hanging from barn roofs, hunter's guns, a huge Egret besides a pond - and they never shied from anything!  We've ridden the roads, crossed the rivers, climbed the mountains and raced the waves on the beach!  How much I love the world from the backs of my Peruvians!!  Again, thank you for everything!"

P.R. Laredo, Pat and Annie (before Annie decided she wanted to ride - alone!)

"Laredo fell coming out of the ocean and landed on my left leg - I wasn't hurt - we were still in the water!  He was very good, he ran out of the water and stopped but "Annie" (Still safely attached to the saddle horn with her harness and clips) was screaming in fear.  Thank God he stopped!  Can you see the police report?  'Big Black horse being ridden by a small dog, running down the beach !' Could be in local headlines!"
